WITH WOW EFFECT

The designer Rodrigo Izquierdo summarizes his stylistic coordinates in his home in Milan. A rigorous staging, with well-dosed surprise effects.

Being a natural and adopted child of two European cities as vibrant as Barcelona and Milan is a luxury. The designer Rodrigo Izquierdo was born in the first, and in the second he established his home and his “headquarters” more than fifteen years ago. Your apartment, hyper cozy and very functional, is part of a typical Milanese building that preserves many traditional identity details: the architectural richness, the high ceilings, the decorated floor tiles, the honey-colored parquet or the small balconies overlooking the street from The different rooms are some of the highlights. As for the interiors, this house synthesizes an aesthetic philosophy also based on classic bases, but well seasoned with ingredients that update it.

One is the geometric game, both in terms of the use of color to connect the different rooms – a light gray on the walls topped by a rectangular black plinth, and in the choice and arrangement of furniture that juxtaposes its curved and straight lines , circular, conical and their varied textures, soft wood and velvet compared to the cold touch of marble, glass or metal. Rodrigo Izquierdo uses his own pieces, designed by his studio, or others signed by contemporary colleagues (Patricia Urquiola is the author of the sofa in the living room or Michael Anastassiades of the coffee table), without forgetting the great masters -Miquel Milà, Alvar Aalto, Achille & Pier Giacomo Castiglioni – to compose sober, elegant, orderly environments… To which he then adds the surprise factor! And Izquierdo always finds some imaginative pretext to achieve absolute astonishment. “The various objects, as well as the paintings, sculptures, have been purchased over time in online or physical stores and in showrooms of brands with which I have worked. “They reflect everything I like,” clarifies the designer. The design pieces and contemporary art sign each of the spaces in a very personal way and the sum is a brilliant ensemble, a balanced and intense mix between classic bourgeois aesthetics and fresh, young creativity, full of movement and expressiveness.
