“Light immediately captivated him. The dazzling sunbeams filtering through the pine forest, making their way into the house. Always in motion, like the trees swaying in the wind. Rodrigo Izquierdo has known Ibiza, the wildest of the Balearic Islands, for a long time. He has often visited friends here. Finding a vacation home? Almost impossible, especially along the coast. But that was exactly the plan – if it’s going to be on an island, then it has to have a sea view. And then the 44-year-old and his partner stumbled upon this 80s diamond, hidden in the light forest between Santa Gertrudis and San Rafael, right at the heart of the island.
Recognizing potential is Rodrigo’s expertise. For almost 20 years, the creative professional lived in the design capital, Milan, working with Patricia Urquiola, before establishing his own interior design studio in 2016. When planning the renovation of the house, he envisioned an elegant, timeless home inspired by the Côte d’Azur of the 50s and 60s: clean aesthetics, geometric patterns, filled with beautiful items but never overwhelming. ‘We chose bright primary colors. They form the base and reduce everything to the essentials. And that’s how a vacation home should feel: a retreat to the essentials. A bed is just a bed, a wardrobe is just a wardrobe. That’s all that’s needed.’
To bring a retro vibe into the space, a warm caramel tone flows throughout the rooms – you instantly want to put on Ray-Bans and look out over the rooftops of Nice like Cary Grant. To fully experience the magical light, Rodrigo gutted the house and created large windows. He also designed numerous chill-out corners with cozy lounge sofas and cushions scattered around the house. ‘Some friends have already fallen asleep here – in the morning, without even partying the night before,’ says the homeowner proudly. ‘The best confirmation that everyone feels at home!’
This Ibiza vacation home is a perfect example of how a thoughtful interior design can blend natural light, clean lines, and timeless decoration to create a stunning architectural experience. By focusing on minimalist design and integrating beautiful textures and colors, Rodrigo Izquierdo’s work as an interior designer highlights his passion for creating spaces that offer both comfort and style, reflecting the importance of using elements like geometry, primary colors, and natural light to design truly unique homes.”
